fallposter madiFESTO?

is a media/art/culture exhibition, held in Chiang Mai, Thailand. This exhibition
has been organized annually by Media Arts and Design, Faculty of Fine Arts, Chiang Mai University since 2009. This art media exhibition focuses on establishing understanding and criticizing surrounding complex issues, in both visible and invisible dimensions, that create social benefits and problems with
an eye untied to a particular set of knowledge or a presentation technique.
Instead, the exhibition combines cultural, art, politic, economic and social knowledge so as to create different kinds of media/arts as cultural activities that benefit and relate to the public and individuals. This exhibition is demonstrated
in cooperation with academics, culturalists, artists, designers, creatives, students, instructors, local residents as well as living and non-living creatures.

This year, madiFESTO comes back with the “FALL” project. This project is
about critical investigation into, question about and search for social, politic
and cultural failure, mistake, deception and truth in the past, present and future amid conflicts and rapid changes in the contemporary society through various forms of demonstration as usual. The exhibition will be held not only at the
Art Center, but also at public and non-public areas throughout Chiang Mai
with no limitation of time and space.

This project may not be the worst media art exhibition that tears down,
ruins or criticizes everything unconsciously.
“FALL”
As the citizens in the modern world who grew up and live in the society, overwhelmingly calling for unity and duties; not permitting and being intolerant
of dispute, demand and search for truth; fearing conflicts and being incapable of managing them; not understanding of criticism,a fundamental element in the democratic society; repeating personal ethics and raising awareness, the essential qualification of the “Tenant” who directly belongs to the “Landlord” who possesses power, coupled with privilege, in a vertical relationship, rather than right, freedom
and equality which are the essential qualities of individuals and society,……
is there anything we can create?

Creation should be an effort not onlyto construct and produce ideas or innovative technologies for better society and life, but also to learn and understand complexity, limitation and changes that are overlapped in several dimensions of society, politics and culture, and permeate all parts of phenomena in our daily life and ideals. Thus, criticism, as well as discourse, is crucial, even though it can cause conflicts. Is not this common in the Free World which believes in and respects intellect, creativeness and the learning process of humans that, in turn, lead to a better world? If not so, how can we change the present to a better future? The state of stumbling, fall, lose, collapse, decline and disintegration of changing and moving nature is unchangeable truth.
This is, hence, something to be aware of. Skepticism of confronting issues, no matter how bad or unfavorable, good or favorable, or agonizing or aesthetic, they are can be a building block of creativeness.

Providing an opportunity for ex
pression of various truths and differentiation of inequality, conflict and distortion in all dimensions beyond the shackles is to gradually unfold and dismantle causes and conditions of problems which, in turn, help to open a space of creativity not only for the same groups of people, but also for the other invisible and oppressed groups so they can have access to a chance to live as a human being who possess equal value and prestigeand to jointly develop a better world. How can we still maintain our humanity amid the extreme dehumanization processes? Should we continue to keep silent on wickedness and foolishness by always giving ourselves an excuse that‘It is all right’?

Creative decency is not the same as creative life.
